Athlete2Athlete (A2A) is a student-athlete mentoring and leadership development program designed to help athletes successfully transition into college athletics while building confidence, communication skills, leadership identity, and team connection.
Founded by Karen Kassebaum, A2A provides intentional mentorship experiences that connect current student-athletes with incoming athletes to support their academic, athletic, and personal growth. The program helps athletes navigate the challenges of college life while developing leadership skills that extend beyond sports.
Whether athletes are adjusting to a new campus, balancing academics and athletics, or learning how to lead within a team environment, Athlete2Athlete creates a culture of belonging, accountability, and growth.
The transition into college athletics can be overwhelming for many student-athletes. New environments, increased expectations, team dynamics, and academic pressure often create challenges that impact confidence, performance, and retention.
Athlete2Athlete helps bridge that gap by creating meaningful mentor relationships that support student-athletes during one of the most important transitions of their lives.
The program focuses on:
Helping student-athletes successfully adjust to the academic, athletic, and personal demands of college life.
Equipping athletes with the confidence, communication, and leadership skills needed to lead on and off the field.
Strengthening team connection through trust, accountability, and effective communication.
Creating meaningful mentor relationships that encourage growth, responsibility, and support.
Fostering an environment where every athlete feels valued, connected, and empowered to thrive.
Helping athletes build self-awareness, resilience, confidence, and a stronger sense of identity.
Supporting student-athletes in staying engaged, connected, and successful throughout their collegiate journey.
A2A pairs experienced student-athletes with incoming athletes to provide mentorship, guidance, and encouragement throughout the transition into college athletics.
Mentors help student-athletes successfully adjust to the demands of college life and collegiate athletics by providing guidance, encouragement, and real-world support from someone who understands the transition firsthand. Through mentorship, athletes build confidence, strengthen leadership skills, navigate team culture and relationships, and improve communication and accountability. The program also helps student-athletes develop time management, personal responsibility, and a stronger sense of belonging on campus — creating a foundation for long-term success both on and off the field.
By learning from peers who have already experienced the challenges of collegiate athletics, incoming student-athletes gain support from someone who understands the journey firsthand.
